Less Bitrate Needed -- Quant 32 or Greyscale?

Which kind of frame takes up the least amount of space? One that was encoded in greyscale or one that was encoded in quant 32?

What quant is the greyscale encoded at? I would think a quant 31 (the max is 31 I think...) greyscale would be the smallest but given the "greyscale mystery" thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68648), it might be slightly smaller not using greyscale. I am sure that a quant 2 greyscale frame will be larger then a quant 31 color frame, the cases when this wouldn't be true should be very rare (if possible at all).

I'm just curious how much of an impact greyscale makes on bitrate when compared to forcing a low level quant instead.

IE: quant 2 is used through the entire encode but you switch the credits to greyscale vs quant 2 is used through the entire encode but you switch the credits to quant 16 (or the max)

If you want less bitrate, I'd use quant 16 (or something around) and a b-frame sensitivity of 20. Greyscale doesn't really decrease bitrate, unless your source is really colorful. Maybe a bit.

Then what does grayscale do anyway? So far I've been using it to blow away chroma flutter in B&W material and try to save bandwidth on non colorful portions of general encodes.
