The 1st pass I set frame 0 to be quant 2 and frame X to be quant 16 (credits). This results in a file size of 1 gb.

The 2nd pass I keep the same settings but set a target size of 600mb. The file size is still 1gb.

Do I only need to specify specific quants in the 1st pass and then I take them out in the 2nd pass or is there a bug here?

Also, does the weighting part work properly yet? I read in a thread somewhere that it wasn't working yet.

Its still 1GB because all frames till frame X are still encoded with quant2... ;)

Rethink it, and you get it !!!

soulhunter is right
xvid keeps the zone settings you set at first pass (quant 2 in your case) unless you tell it otherwise
as far as i know koepi hasn't compiled a new build so the weight zones won't work on his build
they do work on gamr's builds though (which are newer)

Actually, what I could do is on the 2nd pass leave frame 0 @ the default weight of 1.00 and then change frame X to quant 16.

I 'think' that should do the trick.
