I just got a new Lite-On 811s and have updated to latest firmaware. Nero won't detect it and I've tried some other programs and all they do is throw errors in my face. Then the LED will stay red until I reboot. Am I doing something wrong? I thought all you had to do was install the thing and Windows should detect it fine. How the hell do I get Nero to work with my new DVD-RW drive? It's version 5.5.10.7.

visit ahead's site and search for your burner's model. When ver 5 was released the burner wasn't around, so it can't recognise it. Windows have no problem with it. its just Nero doesn't know how to handle it.

I tried using RecordNow DX to no avail. It came with the drive so it must support it, so something is up. I'll try to record with the disc I got with the drive and a TDK disc and it'll just say "please insert disc" when using the wizard and "Data Job Untitled1 terminated with errors" when not using the wizard.:confused:

Have you searched Nero's site as Oddyseus suggested? Submit the proper feedback, please.

If you have never gotten it to work and it won't work with the software that came with it, there could be something physically wrong with the drive. Will it read cds and dvds at all?

It reads DVD's and CD's fine. The DVD that came with it didn't work and that should work above all other brands because it's packaged with it. This seriously better not be a dud drive because I don't know how many times I've ended up with a dud and having to send it back and receiving a new one ages later. Please think of anything that could be thr problem. I checked the DVD writer list at dvdrhelp.com and TDK DVD+R isn't listed.

EDIT:
I'm just back from some more testing. First of a copied my Opeth music CD using CloneCD at 40x with a cheap ass CD-R and it worked fine. Then I did some data burning of random files including installs with Burn4Free using another cheap CD-R, it worked fine and was able to install a prog from off the disc. I hope this helps, I can really smell a dud drive now though:(

Just tested 5 different DVD-R/DVD+R's and it still spitted them out. Would you just throw this back to the shop and get a new one or try and find a solution if there is one? I'm with taken it back and will do so in a couple of days, what would you DVD experts do?

It sounds like there is something defintely wrong with the recorder. Take it back.
