I've run into an issue trying to shrink/transcode some DVDs because they use PCM audio instead of a compressed audio format. An example is one of the Depeche Mode DVDs. When running through a transcoder program, the video suffers horribly because the audio is not compressed resulting in up to 2GB being used for audio, leaving insufficient room for the video.
So I wondered if it would be possible to convert the PCM audio over to AC3 (using BeSweet or ffMPEG) and swapping out the tracks in the VOB file?
Not knowing how to use IfoEdit very well (other than what all of you incredible people post in this forum), it seems like it would be possible to do. Any insight on this? Or links to guides that might be appropriate?
The idea would probably be to demux the video and audio from the VOB file, compress the audio using one of the aforementioned tools, remux the video/audio, edit the IFO files (or is this done automatically?) and then put those files back into the DVD image so you have a working DVD that you can then run through a program like DVD Shrink and get better quality.
There is a thread in the one-click forum (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=68474) that has been discussing this, though I don't think the really smart IfoEdit people like 2Cool visit that forum, so I thought I would broach the subject here.
