View Full Version : Removing audio delay

I need to remove audio delay that happens at the beggining of files in certain AVIs without losing sync. The problem is that when I play these files on my standalone, the player does not know to delay the audio and what ends up happening is serious sync problems. I tried cutting say the first 5 seconds of the file, but that also ends up out of sync. So this is my problem.

Is the delay in the avi file or in a mpeg?
or didn't you encode the file?

Try encoding it to mpeg2 or something you like and if it's synced then, back to avi

You could mux it into a matroska while setting the delay, and then back to an avi. This wouldn't cause quality loss and the muxing to mkv adds silence to or removes samples from the audio track to compensate for the delay (AFAIK). I think this is possible in virtualdubmod but I am not sure, I use mkvmerge. If you demux the audio from the avi it should also be possible to fix the delay using besweet but I am not positive you can do it without a re-encode of the audio (but I think you can).
Your delay is constant right; the sound doesn't get more and more off as the video plays?

couldn't you re encode the audio with besweet? setting the delay in the actual audio file and then remux?
