Extremly blocky, why? (XviD-1.0-Beta3-26122003)

The source: 704x576 25 fps, huffyuv, tv capture (almost dvd quality).

Tried with
* divx 3.1 nandub 1.0rc2, two pass in full processing mode

codec default settings, except Bitrate: 900kbps

* xvid 1.0 beta 3, virtualdub 1.5.4 P4, in fast recompress

codec settings: pressed Load defaults, and then

Motion: 6 - Ultra high
VHQ: 1 - Mode Decision

Quant: 2-31, 2-31, 2-31, Trellis quant ON

SECOND PASS:
Default + bitrate 900kbps

After encoding the DivX 3.x is very smoot almost no blocks, very good

The xvid encode is extremely blocky compared to divx 3.x

Is this normal or my settings are wrong?

Try unenabling trellis. Also specify if you have done any filtering to the source (i.e. dust, convolution3d, etc.)

2.) Please check if it is a decoding issue. What decoder(s) do you use? Which idct is selected in ffdshow?

3.) SECOND PASS: Default + bitrate 900kbps
Does this mean that the second pass settings were different from the first pass settings?

4.) Why don't you use the latest releas?
