View Full Version : Another thread about ENCODING SPEED

How many threads can vitualdub send through a system? My task manager shows that virtualdub has 4 threads. While encoding it does max out both logical CPU in my HT P4. To get to the exact question, would having, say, a quad ZEON/OPTERON system encode faster then a dual ZEON/OPTERON system? Would vitualdub be able to add more encoding threads when detecting more CPUs? Would HT help the ZEON any noticable amount over just two ZEONs of same MHz with HT disabled? My next computer setup WILL be a multi CPU system, and even though I use a OCed 3.0GHz HT P4 it's still not fast enough. Money isn't so much the problem here. (even though I don;t own massive amounts, I will work however many jobs as it takes to get somthing FAST)

oh btw....I realize this could go in hardware and/or other categories....the main topic here was virtualdub. I hope I placed this thread in an acceptable location!!!
