can not play in standalone

Hi Everyone can you please help? Ok the problem i am having is playing the film in my stand alone dvd player. I am running WinXP with no updates and the newest drivers i can download, also the only things on my HDD are smartripper v2.41, DVD2One v1.1.2 but have got the newest version of that and still no joy with it and Record Now Max and Nero 6.3.0.0 have tried both and i can not get them to work :mad: I have got a 40 gig HDD 7200rpm, 1 gig DDR Ram, Athlon XP 1700 processer and a Optorite DVD RW DD0201. Please can anyone help me out here i have gone over the 50 coasters mark now cheers for any help

First off, check your media/player compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers). Most of the problems we see that present like this, are caused by your media not working with your player, or burner. Make sure that your media is compatible with both your burner, and your standalone. From the page the above link takes you to, all of this is possible, just poke around until you figure it out. Have you opened your files in a media player before burning to make sure you're OK up to that point?

Ouch on the coasters, man, that's gotta hurt and be frustrating. Hang in there!

Have u checked the player/media compatibility that ammck55 suggested?

If u have a positive answer from there, we need to track your steps one by one to isolate the problem.

1st of all check that your files r playable in MP and a software dvd player before burning.

2nd describe briefly what r the procedural steps u r taking to produce and burn these vob files.

3d. There r posts that describe the files that should be present in a dvd in order for it to be compatible. Pls check that all the nessecary files r present. There was a case that dvd2one hadn't worked on the vts_02_0.vob and thus hadn't copy it to the target directory. Although the disk worked fine in the pc, my stabdalone couldn't recognise it. I am wonderingif this is your case too.

Anyway don't worry we will isolate and fix this.

Hi thanks for your help upto now :) I have had a look and the DVDs i am using are compatable with both my DVD Writer and my standalone DVD player but i have not tried to play the ripped DVD on a software DVD player yet but will give it a go and let you know i know it plays with WinDVD 4 but not tried it in windows media player yet.

Ok i have had a look on the copied DVD and the vts_02_0 vob is on the disk but it will still not play in the standalone :( and it does play in wmp

2) Whats the brand and model of ur dvd player?.
3) What burning speeds did u use for media?. :)

The example of vts_02_0.vob was just a case I faced once. Your situation may be another file of the structure. U can check if there r file pointer issues by loading video_ts.ifo in ifoedit and pressing the 'Get VTS Sectors' button. Ideally u shouldn't be prompted for a correction, if u do, u have find your problem, at least a big part of it.

In the meantime a reply to Dublin-Raider's questions would help to eliminate or substantiate a few more failing factors.

Hi at the moment i am using DVD -R but my writer will do both + & - my DVD player is a sony DVP s500 and if you want to know the DVD writer it is an optorite DVD RW DD0201 and i have tried it on all speeds 4x, 2x and 1x hope this helps you and thanks for everyones help so far :D

Hi the media i am using is the Datawrite Classic and it is Grey in colour. I have also tried the same brand but the colour on that is yellow and that is a classic as well

Will u give us a step by step guide of ur technique, from the start, using smartripper (rip) , dvd2one (transcode), nero (burn). Maybe we can spot a problem?

1: Ok well first off i put the dvd that i am tryin to copy into the dvd writer and start smart ripper up when it has finished cheaking the disk i click on the files button al click on all so that all files are selected then i click on the target and point it to my rips 1 file and them the VIDEO_TS file there is also a AUDIO_TS file in the folder but nothing goes into that,i then click on start so it copies the files to my HDD it takes bout 30 mins to finish and i have not touched any of the settings in smart ripper.

2: then when Smart ripper has finished i start up DVD2One click on next and then click on source and select the rips1 folder and the VIDEO_TS folder that has got the files in it, then comes the destination i point that to my rips2 folder and select the VIDEO_TS folder that is in there. The copy mode is on full disk i then click the start button and leave it to finish which takes bout 20 mins.

3: I then start nero startsmart and select DVD and move over to the photo and video tab and select burn DVD video files then nero starts and i open the rips2 folder and drag the AUDIO_TS folder over and put it into the other AUDIO_TS folder on the far left of the screen and i do the same with the VIDEO_TS folder and click on the burn CD button i do not make alterations to the settings and just click on the burn button and wait for it to finish which is bout 30 mins.

That is it all done hope this helps and cheers for the help Dudes

Ok, the first two steps u have outlined seem fine.
As for the third , i am using an earlier version of nero (5.5.10.42), which is slightly different than your version, but i think i see a flaw in your method.
Try opening the rips2 folder, and select the VIDEO_TS folder ,double click, this will enter the folder and display the contents, vobs/bupsifo's etc, Then click the first file in this list, right click, and then choose select all, this will highlight all the files in this list, then drag the files across and place them in the VIDEO_TS folder on the left side of nero..
Your error is dragging the entire VIDEO_TS folder and AUDIO_TS folders across, just drag the Contents of the VIDEO_TS folder acoss.

ok cheers mate i will give it a try and let you know how it goes just one more thing when i drag and drop the files from my rips2 VIDEO_TS folder is the other VIDEO_TS folder surpose to stay red coz the AUDIO_TS folder is yellow?????

Ok i have given what u said a try and guess what? i made another coaster just another one to my ever growin pile. Do u recommend any other burning softwear to use other than nero?

I wanted to recommend the imgtools approach since the begining, but I felt that I would confuse u more.

So, download the imgtools 091 classic from the site, make an image with it and test it in a rewritable disk first.
