BW movies with DivX

Does anyone know how to encode "correctly" BW movies with DivX5 (from DVD) ?

Is there some speciffic switch or checkbox :) ?

Or encoder will deal with it by itself ?

I just hate to waist space on all that unneeded color information .

Hi-

There's not much space saved just because it's in B&W. However, make sure that you put:

Tweak(Sat=0), or:
Greyscale()

into the .avs to make sure all the color information that may be in the source ("rainbows" or moire patterns) is completely removed. If there's a color logo at the beginning or end, then you can do this to greyscale just the B&W parts:

Applyrange(FrameStart,FrameEnd,"Tweak",0.0,0.0,0.0,1.0)

Thank's but what color logo in DVD ?
Anyway I amg going to use greyscale filter in Dub :) just to be sure.
But I am more interesting in DivX settings .

Have you ever seen the golden MGM roaring lion at the start of a B&W movie? That's an example of a colored studio logo. You don't want to turn that into B&W. Some B&W DVD movies have such things at the beginning and/or end of the movie.

Some old B&W movies are especially grainy/noisy, so I might put on a Temporal Smoother to help with the compressibility.

But I am more interesting in DivX settings

There aren't any special DivX settings to enable/disable especially for B&W movies that I know of.
