I'm not sure if my question belongs here or in another forum so I'll just go ahead and ask.
I had several PAL VCDs that I wanted to put on a DVD-R and I think I figured out a hassle free way. VCDGear to MPEG then join the chunks with MyFlix and then author with TMPGEnc DVD Author for quickness.
The resulting DVD plays fine via PowerDVD on my PC but my standalone (Pioneer DV-C353) gives me the usual scroll-scroll-scroll thingy it does with any PAL DVD.
My question is this, why is that the same standalone plays those exact PAL movies fine when they are in VCD format on a regular CD but when I put them on a DVD-R it no longer works (after all it's the same MPEG-1 stream)?
As you can understand I was trying to skip the step of re-encoding the video and furthermore reducing the quality of the material.
