ntsc to pal

I have backed up some region 1 dvd films and changed them to region 2 but they play in black & white on my tv upstairs. Is the coding on the film for ntsc or pal, or is the output done by the dvd player. If its on the disk can the system be altered from ntsc to pal. thanks in advance from john.:confused:

It will be NTSC

You can re-encode it to be PAL but it's a pain in the backside.
