Can u backup straight away with dvd-shrink, or do u have to re-author 1st?

During the process of backing up "Pirates of the Caribbean"

I used DVD Decrypt and DVD2One and it worked fine. This is the first movie that I have had problems with. Other than that I like the changes to v3.1.2

What version were you using? v3.1, v3.1.1, v3.1.2?
Also, do you have Nero installed and enabled in the "Preferences" menu (if using v3.1.1 or v3.1.2)?

I set up DVD Shrink v3.1.2 prior to making any backups per the guide listed on this site. I did have Nero v5.5.10.20 setup in DVD Shrink.

Let me clarify my previous post. The error was during the analysis part of the "backup" and not during the burn process. Sorry, I should have stated that before.

I think the only thing I "unchecked" was Spanish & French audio. Everything else was fine.

I will try it again and see exactly where it gave me the error.

Some people say the picture quality isn't as good as DVD2One. Anyone agree or disagree on this opinion? I sure do like the added Nero support.

This error could still happen if you have "Burn with Nero" enabled in the "Preferences" menu. That's why I asked. ;)

I made a few comparison tests (even uploaded a few a while ago but there are no longer available) and I disagree. :)

Ii did a successful backup , but with only the movie. The error only appears if i start to add menu's, extra's, ect...

Copied and burnt the movie looks great, except i would really like to know why it isnt allowing me to copy the menu's+extra's?

I had this problem and ddlooping helped me out. Look at his above post. You need to uncheck:

"Burn with Nero" enabled in the "Preferences" menu

Sounds to me like your trying to add menus in Re-Author mode. If that's that case that's a huge no no as you can't do main movie only with menus.

Nope, i'm doing a 1:1 backup.....although according to some guides, it is possible to add Menu titles/some features in Re-Author mode.

@ TheDJ®,

You can add any title(s) you like when re-authoring, even from other DVDs.
You can also add menus, but they will play like a "normal" video and not be functionnals.
However, some have said they created some cool short videos this way. ;)

Using v3.1.2 and trying to make a backup of The Net. The original is under 4.7 GB so no compression required. Only stripping of any protection and making the DVD region free.

When it goes to actually "Backup" the disc, I get this error message:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Copy protection error. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

What I would do is rip all your files with DVD Decrypter and then use DVD Shrink 3.1.2 from there. It would be valuable information if you told us how you ripped you files. ;)

Then wot is the point of DVD Shrink if ur gonna use DVD Decrypter??
