DVD Shrink 3.1.1

DVD Shrink 3.1.1 is now available for download:

- Disabled overlapped IO in UDF disc reader: this solves problems with "DVD Region Free" software.

- Ensure all overlapped IO in generic file system code is aligned to sector boundaries.

- Added option to enable/disable Nero in preferences.

- Fixed bug where "deep analysis before backup" was forced on, even though no compression required.

- Some modification to Nero initialization parameters, which solves
problems when virtual cd-drive software is installed.

- Set "system default renderer" to the default DirectX video renderer instead of VMR-9.

- Added support for YUVY, YUY2 and YVYU directshow formats.

- Don't eject burned DVD if "shutdown when complete" was selected.

- Fixed crash when opening IC8 generated DVDs. They still cannot be opened however.

- Modified text of "set toolbar buttons" dialog, so people don't
think it is wallpaper.

Thanks dvdshrink for fixing the 'no compression required' issue.

I take it this was removed as it was the cause of problems with DVD Region Free.

Yes.

Using overlapped IO generally enhances read performance when reading from files on your hard drive. I still don't know if thats the case when reading from a DVD-drive in SPTI mode, but disabled now because of the problems.

Hello,

When i combine titles from 2 differents DVDs into one reauthored DVD, and burn with NERO. On my player machine, i cannot skip to the second vob file with the 'skip' button, nor can i skip to another vob with the 'number' button on my remote. I have to fast forward until the next vob..

Is that a Shrink problem/feature missing?

Just for curiosity, is there any difference between dvdshrink 3.1.1 and recode2 especially regarding the quality of transcoding?

I know recode2 has 'merge' titles so as it's seamless playback without a pause. DVDShrink doesn't have this but I guess I never tested but I'd think you should be able to click next chapter on your remote to get to the next title (next vob).

Quality between recode2 and 3.1.1 ...transcoding. I highly doubt there's any difference but that's in my own testing and what a few others have said.

Hello,

Does the "analysis phase" much faster now? It used to take me 80 minutes to analyse a movie, now it's only 30 minutes..

Btw, then NERO has the edge for the "non" pause between vobs (for tv series). Wish Mr Shrink can do something 'bout that.

Thanks shrinkman you did a great job with this one.
I have backed up several disc so far and they work great.
The quality of the backups is almost completly unnoticable from the originals.
Backed up so far-
stargate sg-1 s1 d1- Full disc backup- looks great!
Star trek s4 d1- full disc, less subs,auto- perfect
clone wars- full disc, auto- looks great.

I have played them all on a bunch of set top players and they all work perfect.
I burn with record now max. Nero and me dont get along.
I have not changed any of the settings from the original install.
I have a plextor on a amd 2800+ system with win xp pro. no sp1.
everything I have burned so far has been perfect, none of the artifacts others are reporting. I burn on ritek G03 and G04 only.
I have also let the program adjust the compression automaticaly.
Will try it with a custom ratio setting like I was doing with the beta3.5 and see what happens.

So far I have not seen any glitches or bugs.
I am a very happy camper.

Oh dear - an update before my report is ready !

Well - in case this didn't get fixed :

DVDShrink 3.1

1.When open and with Playback running or stopped, Ifoedit can't render streams any more. (Worked fine with 3 Beta5) Also PowereDVD stutters.

2.Doesn't open a single VTS with Drag 'n Drop anymore - trys to analyse the lot ! (which may be broken while editing)

Just an FYI (for your information):

In my experience, you can't use the skip button on your remote to skip to the next title, only to the next chapter. A lot of DVDs have tiny 0.15 second chapters at the end of titles to give you the sense that you're skipping to the next title (or back to the menu), but all you're really doing is skipping to the end of the current title.

daehkcid, as you've discovered, placing multiple titles on a DVD using reauthor is exactly that - creating multiple titles. Most players will let you change between titles, but not with the chapter skip button. See if you're remote has a 'title' button, or failing that, a 'display' button which would probably bring up an OSD with a title change option.

OT: I've always wondered what those tiny bits of video were in some of my "Big 3" projects. And now I know. (I normally choose to remove them because sometimes they make Scenarist choke when re-muxing a project).

I have been using the beta 5 version since it was issued with no problems. Now when I try 3.1 and 3.11 the video preview doesn't work (nor does the audio for that matter). When I go back to beta5 it works okay. I tried changing all the settings in the preferences but no video and the buttons are grayed out...

Can anyone help me as I'd love to try out the new features.

no suprise really that the development got stopped, ahead is probably giving him some heat. pretty good move to integrate the nero burning api with it though, i guess the possible extra sales convinced ahead to let him finish dvdshrink in the end :)

maybe DVDShrink can persuade Ahead to create a forum for their products, so that we can continue to keep a dialog open and suggest new features and help track down bugs with DVDShrink 4.0 (Ahem, I mean Recode 2.5 :D )

I think Ahead is a great company with great vision and products, but their website really lacks in the customer relations area, that is involving the customer more in the design and development of new features.
