Hello !
I need to know how to batch encode
VOB files to Xvid.
I'm using Ampeg2avi GUI.
I know there is a batch list in mpeg2avi GUI but
it's only useful for Divx ...it seems it can't be used to do automatic batch
Xvid .
(because a dos window asks what compressor to use each
time a new vob on the list has to be encoded). It would be
nice to have a tool such as XvidAuto, which would set it automatically,
like DivxAuto).
Is there an easy program that would batch encode my VOBS to Xvid ?
I like Flaskmpeg but it seems it can't do batch.

Gordian Knot (AutoGK) & VirtualDub(Mod) can both do the job depending on how much automatization you need/want

well in fact I don't ask for much...
I just have some vobs from different sources
that I'd like to encode overnight with one click !
I just need a resize to 656x528 and AC3 muxing
from the original vobs to the target avis.
I've never used virtualdub mod...Is the "run script" function
what I need for batch encoding ?

Hi-
Is the "run script" function what I need for batch encoding?
No. Go File->Save as..., and check the "Don't run this job now..." box. Then when you're ready to encode, go to Job Control, and hit Start.
Is there an easy program that would batch encode my VOBS to Xvid ?
If you can wait a few days, then AutoGK (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64266) might be what you want. Batch encoding is due in the next release. It doesn't get any easier than AutoGK.

I've just tried virtualdubmod . I followed your instructions
and it seems OK ! Thanks a lot !

Still, I found a little problem :
In the resulting Xvid AVI, I've PCM audio
wheareas I want the original AC3 audio.
There doesn't seem to be an option for this in
virtualdubmod ?

Hi-
Geez, how on Earth did you wind up with PCM audio? Don't ever let VDubMod do your audio. Anyway, to keep the AC3, go Streams->Stream List->Add and pick the one you want. Then right-click on the newly selected AC3 audio and make any changes you want. If there's a Delay, set that. And I like to set Preload and Interleave both to 96 ms.

But the vob file I want to convert to
Xvid already has the AC3 stream !
I just want this audio stream to be in my
resulting compressed AVI file as well ...
I don't know why this stream in converted to PCM
when I compress my Vob to Xvid !
Having the Vob file opened in virtualdubmod, I've been to stream ---> stream list ...
and here is what I see : "source:input mpeg file, Desc: mpeg audio stream (AC3)length 00:04:24:192"
Now all I want is that beautiful AC3 audio stream to be in my
Xvid file ... This should be simple to do ?

Hi-
I don't know where you learned to make .avis, but it wasn't here. If you want the AC3, you have to separate it from the vob file. DVD2AVI is the preferred way to do it. Have you read any of the guides on this site yet? Anyway, sorry, I assumed you already had the AC3. Here's Doom9's DVD2AVI guide that will explain how to get the AC3 audio out of the vob file:
http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2avi.htm
There are different versions of DVD2AVI floating around, and the GUI is slightly different from version to version. But once you get it, it'll be easy for you to figure out. And most people don't encode directly from the vob, although it may work OK in your case. Ordinarily we encode using the project file that DVD2AVI creates, and then frameserve into VDubMod using an AviSynth script file. Gordian Knot is perhaps the way to go if you're just starting out. Here's Doom9's GKnot/XviD guide:
http://www.doom9.org/xvid.htm
And another perhaps more suited to your purposes:
http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main4.htm
DVD2AVI (and AviSynth) is included in the Gordian Knot package. But if all you need (or want) is DVD2AVI for the AC3 audio, then here's a link for that:
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Decoders/decodefix100.zip
I hope that will solve your problems. Good Luck.
