New first pass quality question.

Now, I understand the usefulness of having a faster 1st pass when doing 2-pass encodes. However there is one scenario which happens a lot in my encodes that this would mean it takes longer to encode something.

In the past I'd encode and keep the 1st pass. If, by miracles of compressable footage, the 1st pass was under my target size due to codec saturation I'd just keep it as a job well done. However the 1st pass is no longer the maximum quality so I'd have to encode the 2nd pass anyway or do another cq 1 pass encode.

Would it be possible to have a "full quality 1st pass" option which would have the old slower 1st pass but be more useful for occasions when you dont need a 2nd pass? I can see situations where I would want the fast 1st pass (for footage I know is very hard to compress) but it would be nice if it were optional.

Well, since sysKin answered the same question for me:

Just define a zone in the first pass with quantizer 2 over the whole length of your source (while using weight 1.0 or whatever during the second pass) and you'll have the old behaviour back.
