I know the rules advice against asking here what's best.
But not having the knowledge to compare I would like someone who has it and did it to explain me if there's quality diferences between reencoding avi2DVD with CCE or with Nero6, so to get MPEG2.
I know CCE is among the best encoders but I've been recently told that Nero6 (with all the codecs) makes the avi2DVD process faster and in one way.
Any pro or against?
Thanks in advance.

CCE will be much faster (by about a factor of 3 or 4 I should think) than Nero, and should produce better quality (though of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The Nero interface does make the process easier, though DVD2SVCD (don't be confused by the name, it'll do AVI2DVD as well) makes the process one-click once you get things figured out. You'd be well-advised to use the D2SRoBa plugin as well - it'll mean you only need to do a single pass, so much quicker.

The only downside to using this method is you (theoretically?) need to shell out for CCE ($2000 or so for the SP version) and Scenarist ($30,000 ish I think) if you want the whole one-click process to work.

Good luck whichever you choose.

thanks The Belgain, most ilustrating your answer.
As it happens I have both CCE 2.5 and Scenarist, but was trying the Nero6 interface because having been adviced in favour.

I had had problems the first 2 times with the "One click" way using DVD2SVCD (CCE+Scenarist), with AVI input and DVD output. I don't know if I should fine tune Scenarist settings, being totally new to authoring, but at first I let it as it was and... got the result with the chapters mixed; besides I was left with the vobs plus one DVD image.

I didn't know how to burn the image, since not Nero, nor DVDMaestro would take it -- or at least I couldn't fathom how, so I ended erasing the image and burning the vobs with Nero. That gave me the chapters-mix result I mentioned.

Lately I've been trying letting DVD2SVCD+CCE produce just the bbmpeg file from an AVI, and droping that Mpeg into the Nero6 interface so to getting the vobs and burn them to a disk.

I don't know if this sound stupid, so I'm all the most open and thankful for anything better.
thanks again in advance

Yeah, it seems like there's a chapter bug when using fixed chapter lengths. The workaround is to just set the chapter length to longer that the length of the movie (eg 99999) and then the whole film is just one chapter. Works fine that way.

thanks again, i'll try this next. Nevertheless, what do you think of the way I've been using of late, I mean concerning the quality and easiness -- since it is reencoded with CCE and only Nero interface is used for the last steps?
