hello!

as you have experienced (i think most of you have), when sometimes you watch xvid movie, some frames freezes and it makes slime all over the screen.. some picture stays still and other move inside of it and whole compilation is one motion blur mess where you can hardly see whats going on...

my QUESTION is that. how to do it. how can I make a movie do like that.. please understand .. I DON'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT.. i want to know how to make situation like that.. i need my movie get blurry like that... you think maybe im some kind of masochistic freak, but its up to you .. can anyone help me in this?

i found all this thing in one movie 8th mile, when I showd it to myself through the nimo packs ffshow filters (and there was included old xvid codec integrated there).. and it was kind of cool. the massive pseodomorph ran through the whole movie and screen and strongly..

i know some reasons of it. it must be encoded in newer XVID codec and show it through those filters, and i have reached somewhere already. like i have to make keyframes pop maximum after ever 80 frames (minimum interval is 15), use chroma motion and global motion compensate.. and it almost looks like this, through those nimo pack filters. but the pictore is laging and hopping(shaking) a-bit up and down and blurry mess is not so "stable"

does anyone have a clue what settings i must use in encoding to get such an effect through the filters.. or what variables in XVID encoding i must use.

i put here Gspot information about 8 mile movie i looked (if there is any way to get information how its encoded, or what directions to walk and choose)
http://www.hot.ee/grypter/gspotimage.jpg
(there are questons about videosection Qf-0.200 bits/pixel)?? how to get this variable?? what settings to use.? im running pretty much in the rounded tunnel.

and this-> http://www.hot.ee/grypter/8mile_jupp.avi is a little 4 megabite part of 8th mile movie that behaved like this (maybe you can gain some important information out of it)

It's really important, and hurried problem, because one (low budgeted) movie is depending on it.. premiered in this spring..

thanks if you read it,

@gryter:

First of all, you've violated rule n.6 for discussing illegally obtained copyrighted material you DEFINITELLY don't own and haven't encoded yourself. Please read forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) to learn how to post.

Anyway...
as you have experienced (i think most of you have), when sometimes you watch xvid movie, some frames freezes and it makes slime all over the screen.. some picture stays still and other move inside of it and whole compilation is one motion blur mess where you can hardly see whats going on...
It was case of DivX3, not XviD (at least not any Beta), so any further discussion about this topic is irrelevant. You cannot reproduce it in XviD, if you want smooth/blurred image, use one of AviSynth smoothers.

Well in fact, you can, if you use GMC and try to decode it with DivX 5.1.

Another way, try to copy the file on another computer and interrupt the download to get an incomplete avi file. Then open it with MPC, seek randomly and enjoy what happens when you don't seek on keyframes.

But as mikeson stated, speaking of copyrighted material illegally obtained is forbidden.

ok.. i agree in that, but there is nothing to do that i have seen that and personally i didnt own it, i just saw it and took it for just example.

i think divx 3 was a case when you could separate objects from each other, but this XVID thing i found out was like you could barely separate anything maybe some contrasts, like this is human or or animal or smth, the colors smoothly mixed through the others as picture in clip was moving.. its like you put some green lemonade into the red wine plus some milk and slowly mix it with spoon, was like smooth.

the reason i wont use any smoothers, is that it wont look much like natural..

i put here a little clip as how i see it in my computer
http://www.hot.ee/grypter/P1010002.MOV
please watch it and i think you wiser guys will completely understand what i mean

p.s. this far i have seen it only happen in XVID encoded movies

thanks,

I didn't watch your clip as I'm too lazy/wary to install Quicktime, but I think I know what you're talking about. The easiest way I see to get your slime as you call it, is to render a clip or take an existing one and make a direct copy of it using Virtualdub starting with the frame AFTER the keyframe. It's easy to identify those with virtual dub, just hold down shift when scanning. Without the keyframe, the video will continue without the base information and give a slimy effect for you. I'm not sure how you could make this last more than a second or two before the next keyframe though.

Damn, I just tried to replicate that, and Virtualdubmod automatically inserted the keyframe for me to prevent that. I dunno, might have to research that on your own, try a version of vdub that's about 2 years old.

thanks for the post.. I suspected a littel that this could be the problem of keyframes and how some of filters can read from it. (that maybe they are faulty or broken somehow)

and i tried to cut those out with older virtual dubs versions, but still, it was inserting them automatically.. but effect was appearing a bit more like realiable.

so i think from this point of view I'm stucked, where i am supposed to destroy those keyframes or make 'em crappy.. but i don't know how.. yet

p.s. i made a MPEG of this clip as I see it in my computer.. just in case ;)

Encode with 'interlacing' option on, decode using ffdshow, and force the interlacing bug workaround.
Decoder should be completely b0rked after it, with all the smearing you can even need ;)

Make your encoding with a "mpeg custom" matrix.
In the right of the two matrices, change the upper-left three values to that:

_8_12_18_19_...
12_18_19_20_...
18_19_20_...
...

Using this matrix, and decoding with ffdshow, will give you exactly the effect you described.

However, all of this is only a bug in ffdshow!
Once libavcodec will be corrected in thatt aspect, your "lovely" effect will be gone.

Use divfix to reconstruct your avi-index and then just seek in the movie, but when you get the next keyframe, the image will be fine again, so keep seeking in the file.

Interlacing option was fun ;) but it was too heavy.. there i couldnt separate anything one moment and on second was all picture whole clear, plus there wasnt smooth moving, but laggy..

this matrix thing i tried was already pretty close.. but problem is, that picture is covered by such strange contrasted green and white blocks, and it looks too much intentional.., not so natural (plus a little lag there is).. i 've tried different settings (like in normal coding), but haven't got rid of them.. maybe you didée can tip me up a bit, what other settings could be to make motions smoother and remove those blocks??

and your version aaar9800 was a bit messy, cause i really didnt understand how you can seek keyframes with divfix?? or i just misunderstood..

thanks this far, i need you to know, that every vision of yours and post helps me tons :)

When the avi-index was altered by divfix and you seek in the resultant avi you will use a totally different keyframe as the reference image for P and B frames and it will result in the effect you want, maybe a little different.
