dolby digital >< dts

hi all,
just wandering if dolby digtal and dts are just sound labs and no real diferents between the two? that is what I had herd, in the begining of my days as a sales associate. but now I keep hearing that dts is the way to go. any input would be gerat. :confused:

DTS and Dolby Digital are completely different formats. As far as whether they sound different, that depends on who you ask ;). and a mater of personal prefrence? Basically, yes. The main difference to me is the filesize: DTS typically uses 768-1536 kbps, whereas Dolby Digital is usually 384-448 kbps.

I have seen posts by people that using a very high end audio system, and doing a blind test where someone else switches between the audio tracks, they could tell the difference. But, it is always quoted as being very small and not something that you would likely tell the difference to just listenning.

But, if I have the choice on a DVD, I always pick DTS. I probably couldn't ever tell on my sound system, but its nice to pretend.
