Pal file problem

Ok, i have a problem. I am using DVD2SVCD to convert the AVI divx files to DVD compliant mpegs so i can author them as dvd. I encoded the files using CCE (in DVD2SVCD), and the resulting file comes out to be 2 seconds smaller than the original DIVX file. The audio and video is FINE and in sync, but when i view the subtitles with the converted file, the subtitles are not in sync.

Anyone have an idea why this happens? The converted file is PAL 25fps, like the original file (according to AVICodec).

Problems like this really belong in the (higher traffic) basic forum, so I've moved it for you to where it will get more attention.

I assume you are using the latest build which supports DVD output rather than reconfiguring SVCD output on an older version. If not update to the latest version now.

If it is the latest version and you have DVD output selected with "don't make images" option checked then bbMPEG runs following conversion. If I remember correctly it does this with a movie offset of 2 seconds - ie the muxed file begins 2 seconds from the start of the encoded files. Doing so prevents audio/video sync problems in some cases. However a manual submux would then be out of sync.

Can you multiplex yourself eg in TMPGEnc from the Encoded_audio.mp2 and (Pulldown if NTSC)_Encoded_video_file.mpv to a VBR Program stream, then submux and author? I'm guessing here as I've never tried but I would give it a go.

What I mean is if I remember correctly, bbMPEG used via DVD2SVCD automatically starts 2 seconds into the movie, hence your output file being 2 seconds shorter than your input file. If you are converting your avi subs to a DVD compliant format then authoring using the converted subs and the bbMPEG muxed file then there will be a 2 second discrepancy between audio and subs. I was hazarding a guess that this was your problem.

My proposed solution was to multiplex audio and video manually using the encoded video mpv file and the encoded audio mp2 file from your dvd2svcd movie folder. TMPGEnc has a built in easy to use multiplexer. This would remove your 2-second offset. If your dvd authoring program accepts the TMPGEnc muxed file that should solve your problem.

Alternatively using the mpv file instead of an m2v file, you could author with IFOedit using this guide (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd_page_5.cfm)
You would have to convert your .srt sub file from the avi to an ifoedit .sup file but another page of the same guide deals with this.

Well, that helps :)

I multiplexed the files, and it worked. Is it possible to import files generated by IFOedit into another program? I would like to menus in the dvd.

One last question, how could I configure bbmpeg to not have the 2sec offset. Like I said before, I dont see a tab for it.

There is no bbMPEG tab when you set DVD as output mode. Which is a minor nuisance.

You could try setting to SVCD mode, setting the offset to zero in the bbMPEG tab, reset the output to DVD and then go. It might work. But then again it might not. :)

Also you could look at the DVD.ini file - open it in notepad and see if you can find a bbMPEG movie offset value. If so, adjust to zero and resave. Then try.

As for your other questions, to be honest I think I've helped as much as I can. I use TMPGDA to author with menus but there's no subs support :( . Try searching the DVD Authoring forum and if you don't find what you want try a post there.
