I would like to take this opportunity to say this is my first time here. I've read over a lot of these threads, but can't seem to get my question answered completely. For weeks now.... I have tried every possible solution "it seems" to keep my original dvd layout but I want to replace the main movie(widescreen version) with a full screen version. I've tried every way I know possible in dvd shrink...both full disk mode and re-author mode. And Can't figure it out!!!
The solution doesn't have to be related to dvd shrink...just any help would be greatly appreciated. Iam WILLING to try ANYTHING!!!! Thanks Everyone!!!

If you really want it full screen, then just change the movie attributes. Open your movie's IFO with IfoEdit and browse to VTS Overview / Title Set (Movie) attributes. Double click on your Video attribute for option window. In Static frame, check only Automatic Pan&Scan. Save your IFO and BUP. Play to test.
Just curious, why do you want fullscreen? Is the fullscreen version you have any different as in content?

Hi folks,
Just wanted to post a reply stating 2 Cool's reply DOES work. Here's what I done.
1. Open IFOEdit
2. Open ifo of your movie
3. Scroll down to "Title Set"Movie attributes
4. Double click"Video"line
5. Change aspect to 4:3 and check auto pan &scan-OK
6. save ifo and bup to same ifo you opened
7. Oen your dvd player software and test
I have a couple I can't get to change to fullscreen. I can get the menus to change but movie stays the same.I even tried burning to disc and playing in stand-alone player.
Anyone know why this happens on some dvds?? Thanks and Good Luck!!

Step 5 is wrong for what you are trying to do.
Auto-Pan/Scan (and Auto-Letterbox) are only valid for 16:9 video, these are methods of displaying 16:9 video on a 4:3 display.
This works for 16:9 video, but this will not work if the original has already been letterboxed and encoded for 4:3 displays (a common practice for older movies already transferred to videotape letterboxed, it would be too expensive to go back to the film and perform a new transfer). Look at the original DVD, just below the source resolution IfoEdit will report "letterboxed top&bottom cropped" as "yes" for these movies.

So..how can you make it 4:3 if this doesn't work?? Thanks

This does work.
What this "trick" does is allow the DVD player to perform automatic Pan/Scan. This is the method of displaying a 16:9 movie on a 4:3 display "fullscreen". This is done by cropping off the sides. The other method of displaying 16:9 video on a 4:3 display is called automatic letterboxing, which puts black bars above and below the picture.
If you have a 16:9 movie which shows letterboxed on a 4:3 display, and won't allow you to change the mode to Pan/Scan, then this is the change you want to make. But the video is still 16:9. Most players will ignore the P/S and LB flags if the aspect ratio in the video attributes is set to 4:3, and will, instead, show the movie distorted.

Hell, maybe I should just give up while I'm ahead. I've tried every option I know when changing movie attributes. I just can't get them right. I've got a 16:9 ws and can't get no results. I got one of my four dvds to work properly(all four are new releases). The other three refuses to corroperate. I tried mpucoder's suggestions...and won't work. ALL WELL!!!

Some DVD players have aspect ratio settings. If yours does, then maybe you can change it to pan & scan. Doesn't hurt to try.

Yes, I usually leave the dvd player at these settings. What I am having problems with is getting the 16:9 to display a 4:3 in PowerDVD on pc. I tried all solutions with the settings in movie attributes. Is that the problem??

In PowerDVD, there's a video tab in your configuration menu. There is a screen control section. Try playing with the aspect ratio checkbox. I use PowerDVD 5.0.

Keep aspect ratio is checked. During playback..still looks like 16:9. Should I burn to disc and check it on the player??
The movie attributes: 4:3- auto pan & scan???

Oh I forgot to tell you to also change your Title's video attributes in VIDEO_TS.IFO also. You can do it in VMG Overview.

Ok..let me try to sum up everything.
16:9 Video with main movie at vts_10
1. open vts_10_0 ifo in ifoedit
2. change it to 4:3-auto pan & scan-ok
3. save to vts_10_0
4. open VIDEO_TS ifo-scroll down to vts_10 title-change to same as 2
5. save it to VIDEO_TS ifo
6. open power dvd(with "keep aspect ratio") with video_TS- and go to root menu-play movie- still looks like a 16:9 with black bars
7. Burned to disc-put in stand alone player(settings at 4:3-pan & scan)- and STILL THE SAME!!!
Where did I go wrong??

4. open VIDEO_TS ifo-scroll down to vts_10 title-change to same as 2
5. save it to VIDEO_TS ifo
6. open power dvd(uncheck "keep aspect ratio") with video_TS
7. Burn to disc-put in stand alone player(settings at 16:9-pan & scan
