Xvid to DVD

How much space on the Hard Drive is needed to convert a Xvid file to DVD? I did a conversion but i ran out of space on my Hard Drive. I started with 17 gigs free. It must be more i take it but how much? Tia

17-GB is quite enough. Please :logfile: so we can help you better.

17GB is not necessarily quite enough. The last 90 minute movie I did

Extracted audio + encoded audio toalled 1.3GB
CCE Encoded video 4GB
Pulldown encoded video 4GB
Authored DVD files 4.3GB
Disc Image 4.3GB

17.9GB in total

but 20GB free should cover any circumstances. Also many burning tools will allow you to burn a dvd with the vobs in the DVD Image folder. Even if the image file DiscImage.dvd was not created the encode need not be wasted as long as the vobs are complete.

You're right, Nick. I forgot the pulldown step, which is needed only with CCE.

Besides, using disks more than 90% full is highly non-recommended, and also a clean and defragged disk is a good thing.

/Add:
I thought maybe mickopla might have run into the typical "I think I have free space" when you are actually writing files on other disk. If it is the case, the log would clarify that.

Am I right in thinking TMPGEnc's internal pulldown would mean only one encoded video file. In which case TMPG would be a valid option if you are desperately short of HD space

Absolutely. But even though TMPGEnc produces quite good results, as much as CCE, it's somewhat slower, particularly with the advent of D2Sroba.

Thx guys for all the replies. Looks like i need to free up a bit of space on my Hard Drive.Its a 60 gig hard drive so i could do with getting rid of alot of junk on it anyway.

If you are using an NTSC source with CCE...

Assuming you still have the files another thing you could do is delete the CCE_Encoded_video_NTSC.mpv file. Once pulldown has run this file becomes obsolete and will be nearly 4GB. Crash recover from the Sonic Scenarist step and the process should finish OK.
