[Koepi's XviD]: Can I disable decoding by XviD?

Hello Koepi,

Is it possible somehow to disable XviD so that it won't no longer decode XviD-content? I wanted to use/test the new "generic MPEG-4" support in the DivX5-codec to decode XviD but I could only accomplish this by uninstalling your XviD1.0beta-3 codec completely :-( .

Maybe it's an idea to add an option in the configuration pane or during installation to let the user choose whether he/she wants to use XviD for decoding too (?).

P.s. I'm not afraid of possible Windows registry hacking, as this is probably required to make this work (for now).

You can change the FourCC code of your video to DX50 or DIVX, it will then be decoded by the DivX5 codec.

This change can be made either at encoding ( Advanced Option -> Debug -> FourCC used ), or with an video already compressed, using AviX to change the FourCC code ( AviC is bundled with Koepi's version of the codec )

Yes, I understand but this doesn't give me a permanent solution and doesn't work for movies on CD-ROM :-( DivX5 can now natively playback XviD (with fourcc XVID) but in order to make this work, the XviD decoder (DS) filter shouldn't be used to decode XviD.

Just unregister xvid.ax. And delete it, if you want to.

Does anybody created a kind of GUI for changing, registering, unregistrering the libraries?

For example, I noted that many programs (like Nero Media Player), just overwrite the older regestry settings, and automatically wants to use its own Direct Show Filter.

I'd like to chose 1 filter for every fourcc, but I don't know how to do it.
I read something about but it looks too complex for me.

A workaround is installing the codecs in a specific order, so the lastest take control over the first installed ...

If someone writes a nice program, where we can chose the ax file and keeping it.

(I know that FFDSHOW allows to change between libavodec and xvid for example).

Great for choice of decoder is MMCompView. It enable or disable any codec without restarting. nirsoft.cjb.net
