How to convert from SVCD to miniDVD??

Hey guys,

How would i convert from SVCD to miniDVD?? What programs would i need?? How big of a hard drive do i need?? I have 40GB. I know going from DVD to DVD or something like that a 40 gig is not big enough. I don't know about a SVCD going to DVD or miniDVD that what i want. I never made a DVD before. Could someone please give me some of the really really good guides that will encode with high quality DVD's?? Please reply back.. Thanx guys.

To create a Mini-DVD is basically to create a DVD (i.e. AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS directories, VOBs, IFO, etc.), but a DVD small enough to fit a CD (i.e. 700MB for 80-min CD, 800MB for 90-min CD, etc.). The standard 700MB CD should fit about 15-min of standard DVD.

First, you have convert your SVCD to DVD. Try this tool which has a 30-day trial:

This tool should be able to accept your SVCD clips, and convert it to DVD-compliant, and create all the necessary DVD folders (i.e. AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS) with the VOBs underneath.

Then just burn your CD with the 2 mentioned DVD folders. As long as your DVD player support playing mini-DVD, it should play that CD.

Keep within the SVCD max bitrate for the video. My dvd player plays miniDVDs, but it stutters at bitrates higher than SVCD. Which I think is 2520. Alternatively, the audio bitrate doesn't matter though. I've got up to 448kbps ac3 before and had no problems.

There are some great guides on doom9.org that tell you how to do conversions. Since SVCDs are MPEG2, just follow the DVD to miniDVD guide here on the site.

I get the feeling a lot of newbies don't check the guides and just sign up and wait the period before you can post to ask a question that's easily answered in one of the guides.

Anyways, I use DVD2AVI -> AviSynth -> TMPGEnc/CCE myself. And since you are trying to fit it on a small disc, I use the 352x480 size, though, you aren't subject to just that. 352x240, 352x480, 704x480, 720x480 are all DVD compliant sizes. Audio will have to be converted to 48000, since 44100 isn't dvd compliant. You can use any DVD authoring program you want. Most people like the easy ones, like TMPGEnc's DVD maker thingy.
