Hi, can anyone point me in the right direction (thread etc) for software advice. I've had a good nose around this forum, but cant quite find what I'm looking for.

I have recently bought a Helmet Camera for my Motorbike and now have several hours footage on miniDV tapes which I would like to put onto DVD. I have done a very basic DVD using Nero 6, but I would like to edit some of the footage out (ie the boring motorway/waiting at traffic lights etc), but nero doesn't seem to have this facilty.

Can anyone suggest a good program that will allow me to edit my footage ?

(preferably one that will also let me 'blur out' registration numbers)

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum:

The "best" editing software is usually the one that's most affordable at the time. :)

If you're running a Microsoft OS, you may have "Windows Movie Maker" at your disposal, I'm not sure which version this utility first showed up in, but I know it's native to XP. Video Vegas is a little more sophisticated, Adobe Premiere even more so, etc. As with all software, better tools equals bigger prices. Doom9 has a NLE (non-linear editing) (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=68) forum you can check out, but I don't know if you'll find any threads there on basic clip editing. If you have access to Movie Maker, open up the help file......and go to work, you'll get the hang of it without losing too much hair.

Oh boy. I took the "registration numbers" you referred to as something akin to the license numbers of the vehicles on your clips, you know, for the sake of protection of privacy, and all. Surely this must be the case, as referring to registration numbers of software programs is a violation of Forum Rule 6 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), and grounds for a strike and the closure of the thread. Please be either more specific, or less ambiguous in your meaning.

I use Vegas Video and I can't recommend it highly enough.

DVD Architect by the same company (now Sony was Soundforge) will make the menus and create the VOBs for DVD.

The two come as a package

Cheers Chaps,

I've had a tinker with Windows Movie Maker. It might just about do what I want. I'll try the vegas option as well as that sounds promising.

As for license numbers ' Yep I was refering to VRM's, index plates, etc. '

Whilst I'm not inclined to give it some wellie  .

Accidents do happen and UK law is not forgiving, esp when your bike does 160mph without breaking a sweat.:sly:

You could also take a look at VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org/features). It's freeware, supported here at Doom9 with its own forum, and capable of making some powerful editing moves.
