D2SRoBa Maximum Average Bitrate

I'm getting strange behavior with D2SRoBa's bitrate calculation.Here is what i mean

The thing i don't get is why in example #1 cbr was used to fill the CDs 100% at 2390 bitrate and not the same for example #2.As the log shows example #2 uses opv filling the CD's at 95.4% and doesn't provide the 2349 bitrate that would fill the CD's to the brink.It instead stops at 2230 bitrate thus the unfilled CD's.Anyone understand why D2SRoBa behaves in this manner?

When switching to CBR more, that can happen. D2Sroba does it to have equally sized media images as a result.

The "Max Avg offset" determines when to do this.

Also, I seem to recall some issues with that version of D2Sroba regarding "?" mode and BR calculation. Please get the latest version and try again.

When in "?" mode, you may look at the corresponding samples in the video folder so choose how many media you prefer. Sometimes CBR is really not needed. You are using a high Worst Q (50), so as you don't look quality oriented you may not be willing to go CBR, ultimately fastest and highest quality mode (at the expense of size).

Not sure i fully understand this setting.Considering a setting of 300 was used what should i change it to in order to get 2349 bitrate in example #2.

I did and still don't understand:( .Mathematically it doesn't add up cause total bitrate 2754 - 300(max average offset)=2454.So from what i understand i should not have got cbr in either example.I just want to know how to fill the CDs for example #2.

2754 = Audio + Video, you have to do this math:

2754 - 224 - 300 = 2230 < 2349

But I insist. If you want that much high BR, you actually don't need D2Sroba, user pure CBR in DVD2SVCD.

Also, if you want filled CDs with CBR, that will not always happen with DVD2SVCD because of the CCE limitation quoted in the FAQ. (And you'll get a last image too short.)

Max avg offset: If the video BR(#1 2390/#2 2349) for your movie is greater than the maximum(2754-224 for audio) allowed less this offset(300), the plugin will switch to CBR, using only 1 pass in all cases.

So we have the following calculations:

#1 2754-224-300=2230 < 2390
#2 2754-224-300=2230 < 2349

For #1 everything went well as the log shows
- 3 CD: video_br=2390 (2390) audio1_br=224 video_sz=2238681181. fill=100.0% cbr=1

For #2 things went awry as the log clearly shows
- 3 CD: video_br=2230 (2349) audio1_br=224 video_sz=2115865501. fill=95.4% cbr=0

For #2 it was supposed to switch to CBR at 2349 since 2349 > 2230.Why did it not switch to CBR that's what I still don't get:confused:

Did you try the last version as I suggested?

Also, remember in log #1 you were using "?" mode, so it seems you made the choice for CBR, not the plugin.

Yes i downloaded and installled D2SRoBa 3.1.2. although did not get the chance to try it yet.I'm having big time troubles getting subtitles to work on a double sided DVD rip with the import external subtitle streams feature of DVD2SVCD.

Indeed for #1 I made the choice for 3CDs based on the D2SRoBa's calculations.If it's "?" mode that's gonna let me do CBR to fill the CDs at 2231-2530 bitrate than i guess i'll be using it all the time.From my understanding the max average offset feature is only taken into account when OPV is used.It doesn't seem to affect CBR bitrate calculation.

Well, as I said before, simplify your life. ;) You don't need D2Sroba if CBR is what you prefer.

It's not that I prefer CBR, I just want my CDs filled up,something D2SRoBa refuses to do sometimes for reasons i still don't get.I'll post back if it does it with release 3.1.2

Well, I've said this before but I'll repeat is once more. At close to top SVCD BRs, sometimes disks just cannot be filled. That's why D2Sroba reports the % filled.

You will always get filled disks with OPV (+VBR) setting the appropriate thrsholds. Actually, it is very unsusual a movie go above 1 CD per hour, so most movies fit in 2 CDs quite well.
