How to back up 2 DVD’s on one disk: (note I backed up my copies of American Pie 1 &2 Some programs used are free and some are shareware)
First rip the DVD’s to separate directories with DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com) . Use file mode to rip main movie files with IFO’s (saves time and since you are doing 2 movies on one 4.7 gig disk no extras will be on).
Second Use DVd2one to shrink the movies down so they both will fit on one disk. Set output file size to 2150 mb. On the 2 movies I backed up it worked fine.
To do this you will need to set DVD2one (http://www.dvd2one.com) to read the main movie file only.(it the lower left drop box).
As before you will need to put the new encoded files in separate directories. (That will make 4 dir) once you downsized the movies you can delete the first rip to save hd space.
Third use TMPGEnc DVD Author ( http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html ) to put the 2 movie files on their own separate tracks.
This program also will let you set chapters for each movie and a custom menu for each movie.
The menus can be still pictures or 15 second movie clips of each chapter. Burn to DVD. Use your favorite dvd burning software.
Use a DVD RW to see if you like the results first, because you can reuse the RW disk if it doesn’t
Turn out as good as you would like.
This will take longer to master a final and the quality isn’t quite as good as a one rip DVD
But it works and the movies are viewable.
This is a basic run down on how to. Advanced users will find this easy to follow or know a easier way.
New users may need to cut their teeth on single DVD back up first.
I am using a pc with Win ME and 640 meg ram with AMD 1gig cpu. If I can do this with my PC new PC’s will author a DVD faster.
Note this is used for backing up DVD’s you already own.
I may have missed something if so let me know or any better idea please post them.
