Hello,

Ok I got a Sony DVDRW and am having trouble backing up DVDs. I used DVD Decrypter to decode the DVD Seabiscuit then used DVD Shrink to encode only the movie and english language soundtrack. I then used both versions of ImgTool to create an .ISO and an .NRG file to burn with DVD Decrypter. I've tried 4 times and each ended up with this error.

The media I'm using might be the problem, it's CompUSA brand. I haven't tried to burn anything else with them cause if it's not the problem I don't want to waste them. Thanks for any help.

Hi There. Just use DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5. It should work just fine. Don't use it in conjunction with anything else. You can find a FAQ on doom9 if you need. Good Luck:)

Welcome to the forum, phister!

You can use this link to check your media/player compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers).

This link will take you to DVD Decrypter's Guide (http://www.doom9.org/dvddec.htm#write). Upon arriving at this link's destination, you can scroll down the page to locate the section on burning, that is, if you haven't already found it. :) You can also check your encoded files in a media player prior to burning to make sure that they're valid. If this, or trapvector's advice, doesn't fix you up, post back. Good luck!

Hmmm. I don't know if Decrypter will recognize and burn a Nero image file (.nrg, if I'm interpreting this correctly). Could this be the root of your problem? Someone with more "spin on the ball" is sure to help us out with this. :)

This thread has discussion on the Sony DRU's, there's some good info here on firmware updates.

So close. I updated to the ForceASPI 4.6 drivers and still got coasters. Then I updated my Sony DRU-510a Firmware to 1.0d and I got one good burn. Every disk after that has been a dud. Maybe I should flash the firmware down to 1.0c? The version it comes with is 1.0b.

I did more checking on this issue after my first post, and as two of the links in this thread would suggest, I think you've a media issue. Check out your media thoroughly. Did you try running this down by using the first link I sent you? Your problem might lie elsewhere, but I'd try to take the media issue out of the mix as soon as possible. Persevere! :)

About to take the disks back now. Something else though, when I upgraded the firmware the burner was still burning at 1x. Maybe its the disks that burn at 1x only but wouldn't it burn at 4x if I selected 4x? I dunno, I hope it's the media.

Hi phister. There's a software upgrade link for the Sony DRU-510 in Doom9's news archives. I'm trying to find it for you. Media can't burn at 4X unless it was constructed to be written to at that speed. (I think) I've seen differnt speeds for different types of blank media-2.4X and 4X. I'll post when I find the link.

Well I bought some TDK DVD+Rs and the first disk I tried completed successfully but my standalone won't read it. The one and only CompUSA DVD-R that I go to work was readable by my standalone. I used the exact same method for burning. I used ImgTool Classic to create an ISO image and then DVD Decrypter to burn. What method do you guys recomend I try next? I would like to try and avoid too many methods, the disks were $15US for 5 and I'm poor. :(

You can try using rewrite-able media until you locate your problem. Various brands of standalone players are known to have issues with certain brands of media, even moreso with RW discs. Again, I urge you to research your media/player compatibility using the provided link. What make and model is your player?

Geez I totatly forgot about that, It's a Venturer STS31S, which doesn't read DVD+R. I looked up my burner and when it wasn't listed I stopped using it for some reason. Thanks alot. I'll get some DVD-Rs when I get a chance.

Good show! Upon finding some media brands that work with your player, why don't you post the information here? I don't have a link to a media/player list for Doom9 close at hand, but will search the rascal out. Or, you could give me a hand by finding it and letting me know where it's located. Search works! If another member runs across this same set of circumstances, think of the aggravation this thread could save them. Coasters? Just say, "no". :)
