XviD and VobSub - Little help

Hi to everybody.
I just had a strange problem on the computer of a friend yesterday.
He said he started having audio/video synchro problems. So I wiped out all the codecs, reinstalled either one by one or by using the gordian rippack, and XviD really had some problems. After trying different codecs, I found out that the problem is related to vobsub (2.23). When vobsub is not installed everything is fine, when it's there the movie seems to run slower, and this way the audio is in advance (beginning already from the first seconds of the movie). This problem can be found on movies I encoded and on movies dloaded alike.
Sound was mp3.
Please help me if you had the same trouble

It's not XviD related, you forgot to specify the hardware, the version of XviD used, you speak of pirated materials...

Read the rules and how to report bugs, and fill the missing informations, we'll then perhaps be able to help...

problem shows up just with XviD videox, so it's XviD+VobSub related, being picky.
ok, for the hardware, it's a acer aspire 1353 laptop, for the video card we speak of a VIA/S3G KM400/KN400 adapter, running with xp home edition. AMD XP proc.
For XviD, maybe I made a mistake, when saying different codecs, I meant different versions of XviD, (the 24.06.2003, and so on)

As a last word, I do not speak of pirated materials, you can download interwiews, political conferences and so on from the net, legally available, and, yes, using the mighty XviD codec

Try to update your video driver, try to activate ( if not already done ) the hardware acceleration.

When you playback a video, how much of your processor time is taken by the playing ? With XviD + Vobsub ? With Xvid alone ? Do you use the postprocessing ?

What player are you using ? Do you have the same behavior with all the players ? Especially, did you try MPC ? Do you have FFDShow installed ? Are you using it with XviD ?

It's a lot of questions, and others will follow. But the issue here isn't XviD, I think it's your video card not doing its job, and so letting the processor do all the work.

Play with the output colour spaces as well. (Within XviD DSF decoder and/or dvobsub.)

Thanks for all your help. I'll try changing settings as you said.
Yeah, I tried with different players (even the wonderful MPC fails). For the time being the best solution is to use BSPlayer to read the movie and the subs (so no need to install vobsub).
And I think you're right, it could be related to the ***ty S3 video card of the laptop...Never had a problem with my comp and my radeon 9700 :)
