There is nothing constructive about this post, so you've been warned! ;)
I wanted to pass along a thank you to the XViD developers for all their hard work. My father is a colonel in the US Air Force and was sent overseas early this fall. My youngest brother is a college football player and my dad was really looking forward to watching him play this season. He had the college logo sweatshirts, he had the hat, he had purchased a special tent for parking lot tail-gating. This man was ready to enjoy football season!
Then, two weeks before the first game, his unit gets activated. He wasn't going to get to see a single game. To add on top of that, he is now a grandfather and he was going to miss the first birthday of his grandson and possibly Christmas with his entire family. To say he was depressed is an understatement.
My dad was able to take a laptop with him, though, so I had an idea of how to help. We taped each local broadcast football and made home videos of family get-togethers. Then, I was able to vid-cap them and encode them down to fit on single CDs. We wrapped them up in a box and mailed them over. It wasn't the same as being there in person, but he let us know that it meant the world to him.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that works so hard on everything here an Doom9 and on XViD. Your efforts made at least one life better this year and I thought it might warm your hearts to know.
