I have a most disturbing problem with my tv card, whenever I start recording with the built-in compression to mpeg-2 using the software provided by the manufacturer I encounter powerful sound distortions. These happen not immediately, sometimes after an hour sometimes half and hour. I use the aforementioned card mainly for tv capture so the card seems to be of no worth unless you help me. All the settings seem to be ok.

Hello, missannthropy, and welcome to Doom9's forum!
I have an AverTV card too.
While I never had that particular problem, I ended up removing their software and drivers for other reasons. These days I use the BTWinCap drivers primarily with Vdub. (The capture PC runs WinME.)
But the sound is not processed by the Aver card, it is processed by your soundcard. Of course, it could be a tuner problem if you are using RF-in, but the sound would still go through your soundcard for processing.
If you're not using RF, then I believe there are two likely sources of your problem: The Aver software, or your soundcard. Make sure you've got the latest Aver software, and the latest souncard driver.
You could switch to any other compatible capture driver and capture software, like I did. But, if your problem is soundcard related and you already have the latest driver from the manufacturer, switching to other software may not solve the problem.

thanks for info. Nevertheless this problem doesn't apply to me anymore since I have changed my tv tuner for visionplus 1030, a digital one. I appreciate your help anyway.
