Recode vs DVD2DVD

Hi,

What do methods like DVD2DVD (using CCE, Scenarist, etc...) do that Recode and DVD Shrink do not? Recode et al are much faster and easier, but is the quality not as good?

What step does Recode skip so that it can be faster?
