dvd+rw drive

I have a dell notebook computer with a dvd+rw drive and it will not reconize dvd+r or dvd-r,dvd-rw. is there firmware that correct this problem and isn't dvd+rw compatible with dvd-r and dvd+r and dvd-rw.

No, DVD+RW is not compatible to any other format (incl. dvd+r), and no, if your drive is a first generation drive, then its laser is too weak for dvd+r recording

I was trying to use Nero and on the program is has a disc tool of some sort and it tells me what my dvd+rw drive is compatible with and it has dvd+rw and dvd+r but not dvd-r and dvd-rw. The dvd drive is the hitachi dvd+rw and it was factory installed in my dell inspiron 1100.
