I need to know what app to use to convert an asf file to well pretty much any format, sadly VDUB doesnt work with ASF/WMV since v1.3d, i've tried movie maker, that normally works, even eo video, the problem is that there is an error at 20m36s after which the video stops, and the file doesnt even run in windows media player, it says that the audio codec cannot be found, i use k-lite codec pack 2.20 and have all the codecs installed. Well it manages to convert upto 20m36s out of 21m50s in movie maker under winme not winxp. So i'm stuck right now, i can only get the beg 20m36s and ending 20s using movie maker in winme, thats it

Why don't you transmux your asf to avi with VDub 1.3d and continue from there?

@techz
So far I've only had luck with TMPGEnc to read ASF files that don't work with Direct stream copy in VDub.
Transmuxing sometimes fails, but it's the ASF files that are somehow corrupted I think, so I have to use TMPGEnc to trascode.

Try GraphEdit - itīs a bit hard at first(at least, I had problems with it), but it seems to be able to open even newer WMV files.

you can find a virtualdubmod version with enabled asf support here (http://es.geocities.com/dextstuff/) (no need to use the old vdub1.3d anymore)

Search for Asftools. It can transmux ASF to AVI container, or try to repair your damaged ASF, or make it seekable if it doesn't.

Try as2mkv (asf to matroska container). It's on Gabest sourceforge site. Open the file in your HD and then it convert it to mkv. I think it has to play it on real time, so if it's an hour movie, process will take an hour and so on...

AviSynth would be the best choice I think. Once I (stupidly) converted an ASF to uncompressed AVI with WMM, and that worked too.

Yes, but this way he has to recompress the stream. I think he just need a losless conversion between formats.
