Hi, im new to these forums and new to digital video in general. I have 2 questions/problems that need solved.

1. Every time i try to rip a dvd with DVDx 2.2, the video turns out to be just 6 mins and 40 secs of the beggining of the movie. Quality is perfect, sound is fine, its synced, its in .avi format, but just far too short. I followed all of the instructions to a T that i found at this following site. Afronics (http://users.auth.gr/~ichatzim/divx4.htm) and i cant figure it out.

2. Secondly, I have a video that is in Xvid format, but the picture is corrupted. It isnt the green corruption, just smeared kinda. I checked out XVIDmovies.com (http://www.xvidmovies.com/faq/#4.6) and did what it says to do there, and that didnt work.

If it helps, here are the specs on my comp -

P4 processor @2.6ghz w/800 mhz FSB + HT
Win XP Pro
512 MB dual channel ddr sdram
128 MB GeForce FX5200 video card
integrated audio
80 GB hd
40 GB hd (slave)
16x DVD-ROM (1st)
48x CD-RW (2nd)

Thank you for your help! Its much appreciated. =)

Hello, cancer69boi, and welcome to Doom9's forum.

The guide you are using includes outdated, unsupported software. For example, the DivX 4.12 codec may be stable as stated in the guide you are using, but it is neither marketed nor supported by DivX Networks. (I've not used DVDx, so I cannot comment on it's use.) If it produced logs of your settings and what occurred, perhaps you could post those.

However, there are other encoding guides that are more up to date, such as Doom9's many MPEG-4 Encoding Guides (http://www.doom9.org/divx-encoding.htm). Most are based on the Gordian Knot encoding suite. But if that suite seems too complicated, take a look at a simplified version called AutoGK (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64266).

I can't help you with your XviD problem, sorry.

Set the number of frames in Output Settings to 'whole'.

- Install the latest xvid
- Uncheck 'xvid' in the ffdsow filter settings
