Encoding Raw AVI?

I'm a newbie, and am usally just encoding DVD files into DivX/Xvid via GK.

But, now I have an uncompressed raw AVI file (at a little under 1GB) that I want to encode to XviD, but I munsure how to go about doing this? Any help would be appreciated!

I want to take the raw AVI (the clip is 3 minutes and 21 seconds) and compress it to less than 100 MB. I want to get the best quality, but I don't want to set it to 100MB, if it can be vary similar quality at 50MB. I want the best quality with the least possible file size. So, if you know how to do this, I would appreciate some help!

Instead of frameserving with avisynth you just put in your raw avi.

yeah.. theres no real way to tell, you just have to play with it.

try 50 and work your way down to 30... also - remember to keep the resolution in tune with the bitrate (gknot is lovely for this)

yeah, you kind of have to experiment to see what works for you. I let the Xvid codec max out myself, but it has excellent quality at low bitrates too. I would encode one at 50, another at 100 then compare. Better yet, have a friend compare, see if he can really notice a difference.
