My dad, who is now off travelling...ahh the retired life, left me his first authored DVD with one issue. All I have is a note my wife gave me. When the dvd loads everything is ok (menu comes up)....but when the movies are playing (3 home movies on the dvd; the menu is just a choice of the 3 movies), if you hit menu the DVD player will not go back to the menu; it does nothing. You have to hit the "Top-menu" button on my Toshiba 4800, and the "Title Menu" button on Power DVD and on our portable DVD. The menu loads fine on DVD insertion..it is just a button thing. He wants the menu button to work and not title or top-menu etc. I have no idea what he authored it in but from the looks of it I would say TMPG. I use DVDLab so have not tried TMPG's DVD Author. I did download the trial and it seems that TMPG uses "title" as opposed to menu...is this true?
Now I could reauthor it in DVDLab but this top-menu, title vs. menu button is interesting. Can you go into IFO Edit and change something to tell the DVD to accept the menu button as well?

TMPGEnc DVD Author creates root menu you get when you press Menu button only if you created a Track menu. Basically, it's their name for chapter menu. The second kind of menus in DVD Author is Main menu, which is Title menu called through Title button on the remote.
It's way too much work to create a root menu in IfoEdit, at least on the DVD created by TMPGEnc. You'd rather re-author the disc. Anyway, in case you're wondering, Title menu is located in VIDEO_TS.IFO and root menus are in VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_02_0.IFO etc.

I know this is an old post, but I had this exact same problem recently and found a fast and easy solution. Simply load the authored VIDEO_TS folder into PgcEdit, right click on the VTSx (in the case of 3 videos on one DVD, x would be 1-3) for each video and select "New Menu". Save and exit. Then open up each VTS_0x_1.IFO in IfoEdit and click VTSM_PGCI_UT table in the top window. Click on the root menu and scroll down in the bottom window until you see the first pre command. Edit the first pre command to "JumpSS to VideoManager Menu" (or something similar) and set the menu to "Title Menu". The command will then be, in hex, 30 06 00 00 00 42 00 00. Save the IFO and the regular menu button should now bring you to the title menu when watching that video (do it for all videos and they'll all work that way).
