[xvid noob] encode extremely blocky

well, as xvid seems to get better and better i thought i should try it myself

i installed koepi's xvid 1.0 beta 3 binary and encoded my current project at 2 passes leaving all options (expect bitrate) at standart

in the resulting video all movinf objects bsicly where just blocks (like on old tv reports when that "mosaic"-effect was used to censor faces)

then i went through the "newbie setting"-sticky and changed the options liek described there and encoded again

the resulting clip was just blocks, nothign else, i really mean nothing else, well except intertitles which where ok IIRC

any idea what i do wrong?

maybe you accidently checked 'Reduced Resolution'?

I indeed didn't do that
i thought the defaults would be set by default (you know what i mean :)

What you describe sounds very strange. Did you had a look at the XviD status window and the quantizer distribution you get during second-pass? What's the average quantizer? What about the second-pass size? Are you sure that you entered a reasonable bitrate?

Oh, and please forgive me for asking at all (but you entitled this as a noob question): Are you aware of the fact that you have to enter your target _filesize_ by default in XviD's second-pass and not a bitrate like in DivX? ;-) If you mix these up, things will indeed get blocky...

XviD should delete all configuration automatically when it's being installed...

For bat files i believe you can just use -pathtokeyhere to delete things. Does that not work in ini files?
