Whats up with that?

I'm trying to make a miniDVD - for grins, since it likely won't play in my machines. Nero 'burning rom' has the function to do so, but will only accept VOB files etc. NeroVision makes the resulting VOB files, bups, etc... but the VOB is 1GB!

Help?

I've never used NeroVision, but I suppose there's an option to change the bitrate, so if you decrease it you should obtain a smaller VOB.
Otherwise use DVDShrink to compress your VOB to the size of a CD-R.
Another solution, since you already have a 600 MB mpg, could be a VCD, which you can directly make with Nero.

when nero re-encodes these things, the audio is always out of synch.

I modified the bitrate, up and down with NERO and damn if it does'nt still turn out a 1gb VOB file! Is that some standard in DVD land? Vob files = 1gb ?

IMO there's something wrong here, if you increase the bitrate you should obtain more than one VOB, and if you decrease it, you should get a small VOB. BTW, VOBs are usually no more than 1 GB, but they don't have to be always 1 GB, if they contain a short movie sequence they can be a lot smaller.
According to your description NeroVision doesn't seem to be a good authoring tool, but I don't know it at all, so I can't help you very much.
Maybe this thread should be moved to the authoring forum...
