Well as a newbie to this, it is overwelming all the information contained here. As I recently bought a new copmuter with a DVD writer, I was looking to back up my DVD's, as I have had problems in the past with scratches on them, and unable to play on my DVD player.

From what I could make out with the info on this site, it is easy to decode the DVD and save it to my hard drive. What if I want to burn this data on a DVD?? Is this possible?? I would like to have an actual DVD backup my my DVD's but what I understand is that there is an issue with the 2 layers vs. 1 layer. Do you have a step by step set of instuctions for doing this?? Can you point me to somewhere where I can read up and learn how to do this??

Any info you can provide me with is much appreciated.

Thanks
Cory

Welcome to the forum, Cory!

Here's a link to the DVD Backup Guides (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdbackup-guides.htm). DVD Shrink might be a good starting point until you become more familiar with the tools and terminology, there's also a forum that covers its use here at Doom9 called, "One Click DVD Backup Solutions". (Navigate to that specific forum from the homepage.)

Once at the "DVD Backup Guides" page, among many others, there's a link there for backing up discs that need no re-compression using DVD Decrypter. Inside Decrypter's guide, there's a nested guide that details burning your files. Poke around and get to know the forum, the links from the homepage to "Glossary", and "The Basics" are quite helpful, as well. Get stuck, post back, someone usually knows the answers. Stickies and the forum rules are a must read, too. This is pretty generic information, for more specific details, let us know what you've tried, and your results, or where you're stuck. Good luck!
