Anybody used Nero 6 for Real Time Mpeg2 Capture

Hi to all and .... happy 2004!!

I was wondering if anybody tried nero for real time dv capturing to mpeg2 (dvd compliant) file.... (not the VR mode)

At the moment i'm using scenalyzer to capture, vegas to edit and procoder to encode.

But sometimes i don't have the time to wait and i would like some (old ) videos to be captured real time to a simple mpeg file so i could author it later.

If anybody had experience with nero or another easy prog, please let me know!!!!

I use both Scenanalyzer and Nerovision to capture DV streams through a Canopus advc-100. I use Ulead DVD Workshop AC-3 to author the capture to DVD. The ability of Nerovision to capture as an ac-3 mpeg does shorten the rendering time. Whether the Nero encoder is comparable to the Ulead encoder (Mainconcept encoder in one pass mode) is still up in the air. Additionally, the latest Mainconcept encoder 1.4 allows 2 pass encoding as well as procoder and CCE if you have extra time on your hands. Obviously, your machine must be beefier for mpeg encoding but you will save time and space. On the other hand, a type II DV avi file can give you more insurance since you'd have the raw file to manipulate later or edit. Mpegs are harder to edit than avi's and you risk creating audio/video sync problems. I guess one can test this out on a fixed DV stream (example: miniDV camera) and compare the final products.

I'll always use procoder for serious dv avi rendering to mpeg2.

But ... nerovision2 mpeg2 capture (with ac3 audio) is a fast solution for not so serious dv avi video real time capture from my camcorder. This means if my video is 1hour, the capture and rendering will be over in 1hour (REAL TIME).

I wish that we could see a comparison between real time capture mpeg2 encoders like POWER VCR, NEROVISION, ULEAD etc etc....
