Suppose you have an existing full set of IFO, BUP and VOB files, all ready to burn.

Is there a way, using IfoEdit or other freely available software, to move through a play item and "remove" sections by virtue of creating a playlist to skip over them?

My hope is to do rough editing of MPEG2 streams at the GOP level. Those are then put into a DVD fileset and control of playback done to simulate the effect of frame-accurate editing without having to do any re-encoding.

This is incredibly easy with some of the commercial packages. I'm looking for a free method, prefereably one which uses IfoEdit as I'm already familiar with it.

I use Womble.

It's not free but well worth the price. Excellent for cutting commercials etc. from my capture card mpeg. The only one I know of that does not re-encode as long as you don't change the format and are just trimming. Also great for piecing together clips with it's playlist.

And best of all is frame accurate!

It's still going to re-encode the affected GOPs. That's why I'm looking for a way to edit how the VOBs are played. Each program group has a table of times and start/stop sectors. If that can be constructed properly, playback should show only the specified frames. I'm working on a project that's used by quite a few people so "free" is really important.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
