View Full Version : DVB->DVD How to crop ?

Hi everybody,
I managed to burn some DVDs starting from DVB captures (either SkyStar2 or Nokia MM via SCSI), but still haven't found the way to crop some pixels of the image (broadcaster's logo, for example).
For DivX I use GKnot and all its related tools, but how can I do this in MPEG2 "world" without having to re-encode ?
Same problem to cut off beginning and end minutes (here too there are many easy and simple ways with DivX), as well as commercials.
Besides all free tools, I have Pinnacle Studio 8 which allows to cut the clip, but I didn't find the way to avoid it re-encodes the source.
Bye!

It's not possible to crop withouth reencoding (this is not possible in the DivX world either, by the way).
To put DVB sources on a DVD, I use ProjectX (x08.jar) to demux my PVA files, then I use MPEG2Schnitt to trim and cut out commercials.

Thank you, bb.
You're right, it's not possible to crop without re-enccoding. And this is quite obvious, but I was too much excited with my new DVD burner that I didn't think before asking :)

For cutting/trimming I found TPvrConv at http://www.videoconv.com/index.htm .
It's mainly to convert PVR files saved by PVR's boxes (receivers with built-in Hard Disk), but it's also able to cut/demux/mux MPEG-2 files.
It can also supply video to one of the codecs installed in the PC (DivX, etc.).
The site is in Italian, but the program is in English. If someone need a translation, just ask :-)

Thanks for the link - although I don't know how you can convince this program to cut MPEG-2 files...
You may be interested in this one, although it's in German:

In TPvrConv you must open a MPG file first (the open box defaults to PVR files, you need to change to MPG2 files), then you can choose what kind of output you want (only video, only audio, both separate, both muxed) and you can enable the Range selection panel.
In the Range panel (bottom half of the screen) you can set: Start offset, Lenght, End Offset and one or more intervals in the middle of the movie to cut off.
I'll also try to use MPEG2Schnitt, but I don't understand German.
Thank you very much.

I just translated MPEG2Schnitt to English. It will be available soon at Doom9's downloads; if you can't wait, drop me an e-mail (bb_doom9@gmx.de).
