View Full Version : Nailing down wavy lines

I have a source that has an ending where the lines appear to wave (moving bands of brightning and darkening), and Im looking for a way to make them stop. Someone suggested to me to use DNR2 or PicFix, and I have been unable to find Picfix and DNR2 just isnt strong enough to remove them without causing massive ghosting. I was wondering if anyone had some more suggestions one how to stop this.

Have you also tried the Wavelet Noise Reduction Filter for Virtualdub?

Nope, and I really want to avoid solutions that require dropping into RGB32:scared:

when dealing with waves, only vd_wnr helps.
I don't know another filter that is able to do remove waves.

btw. vd_wnr is slow.
Because of its incredible speed, the two little COlorspace conversions from

YUV -> RGB -> YUV won't be noticeable.... hehe

EDIT: could you make available a sample pic or video of this problem?

IIRC, vd_wnr can also be used in plain YUV mode. Diggin' very deep in the forum should bring up an old thread with a lot of tips and translated readme's to vd_wnr.
In case that thread should have gone lost somehow, I'm pretty sure I have a backup of that thread floating around on one of my older machines. (But it'll take some days before I get there again...)

I thought that all virtualdub filters worked in RGB.

Edit: BTW, I have now tried WNR and the waving is still there. I would post a picture, but I have no means to host it. If anyone has a link to Picfix, id be might appreciative. Thanks for the help guys.

I played around with it a bit just out of curiosity, but it didn't strike me as anything spectacular. Oh well.... :)

WNR is awesome! you have to just find the correct settings
which can be very hard to do.
