View Full Version : Video File with subtitles?

Hey all!
I am not sure if virtual Dub can even do this but I am not sure where else to post.
I got a video file with the ".ogm" file format and the subtile file is in ".srt" format. I want to merge the files together to place them directly on the video.
To sum it all up, I want to change the ".ogm" file format to mpeg1 or 2 so that I may burn the file on a dvd-r. If anyone knows how I can do this please let me know.
thanx in advance

You can use VirtualDub + TmpgEnc (both can be found on the doom9 site) to do this i guess (never used .ogm)
How:
- VirtualDub uses ssa files, not srt, so you have to convert them using srttossa (i use it) get it here (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/srt2ssa.html) and convert your srt to ssa
- Go to the map you installed VirtualDub and open AuxSetup.exe and choose "Install Handler", then run VirtualDub.
- File -> Open Video File
- Video -> Filters -> Add -> Choose the "subtitler" from Avery Lee, press OK -> In the new screen: add the ssa file you just made -> OK (2x)
- File -> Start Frameserver -> Start -> Now give a name to the frameserving file -> a window pops up, leave it this way
Open TmpgEnc, ignore the wizard
- At video source: use browse, and select "All files" (or something) in the bottom, then select the .vdr (the frameserving) file you just made
- Make an output name
- Go to "Load" and load the template you want, DVD = mpeg2 file, VideoCD = mpeg1 file, SuperVideoCD = mpeg2 file, and choose the correct type: NTSC(FILM) if your tv uses NTSC and Pal if you have a Pal-tv
- Hit "Start" and see if it works!
If anything is not clear to you, just ask!

Hey jojo thanx for responding!!!!
I am trying the subtitle's now but I do know for a fact that TMPG won't accept the .ogm file type. Any ideas on how to convert or maybe the newest tmpg supports it?

know for a fact that TMPG won't accept the .ogm file type.
Heard that about TMPGEnc so I tried it a few weeks back and it works fine. I am guessing that it is opening it via dshow, so if it has internal subs, then I guess they should convert fine (my test file had no subs).

Didn't your .vdr (frameserving) file work?
because you mustn't open the .ogm directly in TmpgEnc..

vdr?
I am kinda new to all of this. BTW when I save the new file with the subtile what should I use to compress it? I tried xvid but I didn't get any sound out of it. What settings should I use?
thanx again

Ehm,
when your here: - File -> Start Frameserver -> Start -> Now give a name to the frameserving file -> a window pops up, leave it this way
At the "Now give a name to the frameserving file" you have to make a name for the frameserving file, that will be a .vdr file.
You have to open that up in tmpgenc.
When it's not clear yet i'll make some screenshots or something.

I tried the frame thing and it just sits there, I left it alone for about 20 mins and nothing happens. It made a file but when I tried to open it in tmpg it wouldn't let me.

what "just sits there"?
and why doesnt tmpgenc let you open your file?

Well the Frameserver just sits there. Nothing is happening in the screen. It does make a file in the folder thou. It's like then 10k in file size. I tried to open that TMPG but it won't allow me.
Any ideas?

Why doesn't it open im TmpgEnc?
Does it give an error message?
Btw, it's ok that the frameserver just sits there, leave it on,
it will start doing something when you start the encoding in tmpgenc, but first we gotta make this .vdr work..
