New PC, BTWinCap Drivers stop working after shutdown, then powerup

Hi I recently built a new PC and installed my Leadtek Winfast 2000 XP Deluxe capture card into my new PC. I never had any problems with the capture card on my old PC and I was able to use the BTWinCap drivers without incident. Now everytime I shutdown my PC at night and start it up the next morning, the capture card does not work. It still says that the drivers are installed but in VirtualVCR for example it says there's "no TV tuner device found." Even in VDub VCR, which I have been using for caps, there is usually a "TV Tuner" Button under the Video-->Source menu, but after shutting down and turning it back on it mysteriously disappears. Anyone else have this problem?

Did you shutdown completely (power off) or did you go in one of the other ACPI power modes. (hybernate, sleep mode, stand-by etc.)

Note that on a modern PC pressing the power switch does not necceserily switch of the power completely. That depends on the bios power settings.

The BT878 does not support all of them (the fusion does I think) and some parts may not 'wake up' when you switch the system back on again.

Also, ACPI support in the BTwincap is a work in progress judging from the various release notes.

I had put my computer on standby that day but didn't check to see if the capture card worked after that. I only noticed it when I shutdown that night and started back up in the morning. I'll reinstall the drivers and put it in standby and see if it messes up.

Could it also be a bios setting? Cause my old computer I put it on standby all the time and never had any trouble with the capture card and btwincap drivers. I have an Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard, so I'll have to re-read the manual then to see if anything applies. Thanks

Troubleshooting powermanagement related problems can really be a pain. It involves bios, drivers, the hardware and windows itself. So the fact the card worked on your previous PC doesn't mean much.

You won't find many related options in the bios (apart from enabling/disabling ACPI, but this option is absent in most modern biosses).

MS will mostly blame it on the hardware, so don't expect to find much on their site :(

A few long shots:
-Simply switching PCI slots sometimes can help.
- install the chipset drivers (infinst.enu from the intel or asus website) if you haven't done so already
- make sure all the other hardware drivers are up-to date (can be a conflict with other hardware)
- very rarely a bios upgrade can help.

hmm...I updated the bios yesterday night and reinstalled the drivers for my capture card. I tried restarting and the capture still worked. I put my computer on stand-by this morning and started it back up and I think it worked...so maybe the BIOS did it! haha I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks Arachnotron.

i have bt878 tv tuner card. i faced same problem when i used BTwincap driver.
after woke up from s3 standby mode, iuvcr freezed when it initialized. this screwed up my tv scheduled recording ;-(

then i tried iulab tweaked driver. it works best at acpi and solved the problem. now, i can record flawlessly.

Search the registry for "PageOutWhenUnopened" and change it to 0. (Be sure to check first if the registry key is that of BTWinCap driver.) Reboot. Or, better, go to Koepi's site and download his utility which addresses the same problem (I think):

with btwincap driver, my iulab will crash after i shut down the dscaler. this exactly same as what he found.

i'll try this soon. i prefer btwincap driver than iulab driver. if this problem is solved, btwincap driver is simply superb!

i tried the btwincap driver again and changed the "PageOutWhenUnopened" setting to "0" and reboot. but unfortunately, the problem is still there.
then, i switched back to iulab driver. i checked the setting of iulab driver, it's "01" by default. but there is no problem at all for this driver. it works when ever i resume from s3 state. iuvcr never freezed the system after i shut down dscaler.

so, this never solved my problem.

it this a flaw of the driver? i'm using flyvideo 98 equilvalent tv card.

Well, I'm not that experienced in this, I just read somewhere about this problem (if this is your problem indeed). The author of BTWinCap was aware of this problem with power management and it was suposedly fixed, but some other applications, like DScaler, expect the device to be in 'active' state - as opposed to 'power saving' or 'paged out' state.

Again, I'm just telling this from memory and I'm certain that this is completely inaccurate. I'd say, if iulab driver works for you, use it. As far as I have heard, it's a very good driver too.

Also, I have remembered of another similar utility for BTWinCap, you can find it on Doom9's download page in support utils.
