Ripping region 2 disk on region 1 firmware

My brother ripped a region 2 disk onhis LG 4020b. Then I went to rip region 2 red dwarf on the same drive, no vulnerable blocks found or somehting weas the error, and much was undecryptable.

I switched regions, and it played and ripped fine.
What's the deal with region locks and dvd decryping? (DVD decryptor and smartriper I tried, both failed)

I actually didnt realise i switched the regionl he put it back and will leave it region 1 from now on. I will be gettiong more region 2 disks and would like to be able to rip them on any burner if possible.

Is it suppsoed to be impossible? DO I just need to buy a cheapo drive and leave it region 2?

I would understand if none worked, but he ripped Les miserables region 2 without any issues.

just rip it with something like dvd decryptor, and make it a region free disc. Then make it into an iso, and use something like daemon tools to watch your iso, or just use dvd decryptor to burn it.

I tried dvd decryptor and smartripper. neither would work until I switched regions on the drive.
I read the ripping Q and A and it said it cant use aspi for wrong region, but it can use brute force method instead Brite force failed. Am I sol?
I just want to make sure there is nothing I am missing, or if I should bother learning vstrip for ripping, if it can handle it. Otherwise i gotta go buy another drive and set it to region 2 permanenty.

What file is it failing on? It must be a small one.

Try and use the key from another vob in the same vts set.

I do believe it was small files......., once they were failing I just gave up then tryied to play it and accidentally switched regions.

How would I go about trying a certain key for certain files?
ive used ifo mode and file mode and sream processing for angles etc, but no idea how to find a key that works and tyring it out on other files. Any advice appreciated.

The basic idea I;m assuming, is if a key works for one file, probably the same key rill work for entire disk?

(For the record, it is Red Dwarf Deason 3 DVD whch does not come out here in Canada until February or somehting and /me couldn't wait.)
Also because I wanted the true native Pal source, I will be able to do a proper pal>ntsc conversion, guarenteed.

Its more likely that a disc will have a common key for a particular VTS_XX worth of files - not for all VTS_XX sets.

To find the key for a file, just right click it in File mode and hit properties.

Write the key down and then enter it into the 'Force Decryption Key' bit in the settings. Rip the problem file and then uncheck 'Force Decryption Key' again.

Thanks lightning. Actually there was only a 20 MB vob file that it could decrypt, the bigger ones it could not. I used the key from the 20 MB vob from a different VTS, and this key worked for the entire disk.
