search engine problems

As you've probably noticed, the search engine has been down for a while. I can't even contact the guy who runs the company so I suppose that's that. So, I'm looking for alternative off-site search engines (not all my servers do dynamic content) and afaik there's a way to use google to search just one site. Does anybody know how that works and how to set it up?

I've seen pages with an embedded Google search, but I'm not sure exactly how that works. I know you can type (for instance) "site:www.doom9.org keyword [keyword] [...]" in Google to search this site.
