Can we officially declare IfoEdit buggy with NTSC-Film?

I would like some input on this issue... I made the following test:

1. Take a NTSC-Film DVDR (Bad Boys II), that I backed-up with DVDShrink. The DVD works fine on my Pioneer DV-343.
2. Rip the DVD.
3. Extract (with Vobedit06) the m2v and the ac3. Extract with IfoEdit the chapters.
4. Author a new DVD with IfoEdit, adding only the m2v and the ac3 and the chapters generated in step 3.
5. Test on my set-top. The DVD play fine as long as you don't fast forward/backward or change chapter. In which case it plays a few seconds (The LCD time display doesn't indicate anything) and then it freezes.

COnuter-tests:
1. the same files (ac3 & m2v) authored with TMPGEnc DVD Author plays fine.
2. I tested another PAL DVD and it worked fine
3. I also tried to author a DVD out of a 24fps AVI, by compressing the video and audio with TMPGEnc, adding a 2:3 pulldown, it also didn't work. The same test with an SVCD resolution resulted in an SVCD that worked just fine.

So I would like to know if it is official that IfoEdit 0.96 cannot handle NTSC-FILM m2v files... Or is there an option somewhere?

If it is official, can the mention of this limitation be made on the IfoEdit guides, to avoid some more newbies to get confused? I wasted a lot of time trying that out, I would like to consolidate the guides to avoid any more people to waste their time with IfoEdit and NTSC-Video titles.

A few issues however:
1. That doesn't solve the problem of all the guides out there misleading newbies into a way that doesn't work.
2. I tried the latest 0.5, and I couldn't get to author a DVD properly yet... I'm still working on it though :)

This tool looks very promising. However, it is still in a very early development stage.

But yes, you are correct that some guides are without a disclaimer that doing NTSC DVDs, IfoEdit does not do a good job. My assumption is that these guides were written by PAL users and that they don't see a problem since it works for them. It's the guide's author who should be responsible to test for any troubleshooting scenario and claim what works and what doesn't. Maybe, we should have Derrow just come out and state that in the IfoEdit Q&A about NTSC authoring problems and hopefully he'll say he's working on it.

Otherwise the responsability would be too big of a burden and we wouldn't have any guide authors anymore ;). The guide author is this nice person that take on his time to share his knowledge and experience with everyone. The problem is, I would like to be able to contact the guide author to tell him that something is obviously wrong in his guide (Not his responsability again, no blame or anything) and that the problem should be mentionned. I tried to contact them with the "Contact Us" link below just to get an answer like "Please post all newbies questions into the forums."... Ok, I'm kidding, the mail was better than that ;).

Maybe, we should have Derrow just come out and state that in the IfoEdit Q&A about NTSC authoring problemsAgain, I (almost) disagree :rolleyes:. While it would be nice to see that mentionned in the Q&A, it would be better to have the guide fixed. I would have wasted less time if the Q&A would have mentionned it, but I would have wasted no time at all if it was mentionned in the guides.

Of course, a mention in the Q&A is better than nothing ;)

Solution:

I see the same problem with ifoedit, so i thought i try to repair the resulting vobs.
So here is the solution:

1) Author the dvd as usual with ifoedit
2) Use IC (I use IC7) without recompression to burn the dvd (it repairs all the errors)

volá, it worked for me. the resulting DVDs are playable in all my players.

IC, Is that Pinnacle INSTANT COPY or is it INSTANT CD/DVD ?

Because i have the same problem with Tombraider2 (NTSC), my work-around was no chapters :'(

Instantcopy 7. There is no difference between the Instantcopy that's bundled with some other software, called alltogether InstantCD/DVD or Instantcopy alone.
