I don't know exactly how AC3 is downmixed in AutoGK, but i guess it's not normalized and it's in normal stereo....And since Dolby Prolgic 2 is compatible with both "pure stereo" and Dolby Prologic 1 seems to me natural for the AC3 stream to be converted by default to Dolby Prologic 2 MP3 and normalizing the sound level. My personal opinion is that a backup with AC3 audio is overloading the file size compared to the 5 channels from a Dolby Prologic 2 MP3 downmix. Yeah, a know there's a quality difference, but if you want to keep the quality just make a complete DVD backup (without recompressing to DivX/XviD/etc). My goals with DivX/XviD currently are to fit couple of movies on a single DVD media (instead of one movie like with DVDs).

Azid command line "-s surround2 -c normal -L -3db".

I think HybridGain is being used for normalization already.

I don't even agree with making Prologic 2 the default. As for the AC3 "overloading" the file size when going for 2 movies/DVD-R; heck, many people keep the AC3 when going for a 2 CD 1400 MB backup. So how can you be "overloading" if you have an additional 800 MB or so to play with when putting 2 movies per DVD-R? Plus, many people don't have setups to decode Prologic 2 (I don't) to enjoy the surround sound, while everyone with any kind of a receiver can enjoy 6 channel AC3.

I might be loosing you all here.
So, we do agree on normalizition via hybridgain (already there) and via "-L -3db" (will be there). I'm not an expert in audio at all, but certainly I won't include an option which cannot be properly played on all systems.
Anyway - I'm not sure how "Dolby Prologic 2" downmix can be achieved in besweet and think that default option (-s surround) is perfectly ok for most ppl. When we have a config file ppl can start experimenting with besweet parameters on their own.

Prologic 2 is compatible with everything! ...and all AC3 receivers support Prologic 1 (Prologic 2 can be decoded by Prologic 1 decoder so we still get 4 channels). By "default" I mean default MP3 options, I'm not saying here to eliminate AC3 audio. What I was trying to say is, why instead of having a MP3 audio with a certain bitrate and 2 or 4 channels, to have the same bitrate(size) MP3 audio with 5 channels? The difference between Prologic 1 and 2 is that the rear speakers in Prologic 2 are separate channels and represent the rears of AC3 (In Prologic 1 the rear speakers are 1 channel and represent a mix of AC3 rears)

Sounds good to me.
