View Full Version : Does GKnot get along with xvid 1.0?

I have tried several times to use GKnot with xvid 1.0 beta 1-3 and the avi comes around 350 MB, even for a movie 3 hours long.

So could anyone please tell me if the fact that Gordian Knot "does not support xvid" means you cannot use it at all?

Because there is no problem if you open the GKnot generated avs in VDub and then set the codec manually.

Thanx a lot.

as already stated in Len0x post, actual build od GK (and AutoGK) doesn't not support xvid beta (api4) built, since codec changes to registry settings.

just wait for an update. Or use avs script gordian knot creates for you in virtualdub.

Best Regards

1. Reset all default codec settings on option tab. (make sure you select correct passes - they will not be automatically set for 1.0)
2. comp test unfortunately will not be working properly yet (the mode used for comp test is removed from XviD 1.0...)

P.S. GK 0.28.6.x cannot be used with XviD 1.0 at all...

THANK YOU. So you say the Knot works with the latest XVid (I'm not interested in the comp check). The problem is, I already tried the reseting of the options, in the beta2 version of the 1.0. I got a 630MB video when I needed a 670MB one (I work with ogg :) ). So it kind of didn't solve the problem. I will try it with the latest version, the beta3. And of course I use the latest version of the Knot. Which brings us to the possible solution of the whole problem: how about a GK 0.28.7.3? Or 0.29 for that matter?

Anyway, thanx for the answer.

I'm not really sure what could be the problem, and first I suggest to reproduce the problem in normal setup (i.e. mp3/ac3 sound with beta3 of xvid) on several sources...

I think the compressibility test will work if you disable the "Discard 1st pass" option on XviD, won't it? ;)

Gordian Knot 0.28.7 seems to work just fine with XviD 1.0 beta3.

is it just me, does anybody else imagine Wesley Wyndam-Pryce talking when reading len0x's posts?

len0x:

OK, I've done it. After hitting "Load Defaults" button a few times everywhere I could find one, I must say, the Knot works fine with the beta3 version of XVid.

It's a pitty though that you must set the default settings for the codec in GKnot also for the second pass, because this way you have do define the zones twice (if you need them, like for end credits). Had I not specified any settings for the second pass, then the zones would have been kept from one pass to the second...

Got the same problems as you...
Usually it works (~70%) but sometimes you get like 10% smaller video sizes than desired...

(Im using GK 28.7.2)

so far, so good, until yesterday :) i use the latest gknot, and XviD RC4(*edit=i cant count to 4 ;)*), but my last 2 rips have come out very oversized (648 mb instead of 621mb, no audio, no subtitles) :(. I had been tinkering with the xvid options in the start menu, so it's possibly the problem(i'd made a 2000 frames test and i had to set the bitrate manually, and i'm pretty sure the output files came out at the bitrate i had set then, instead of what i put in gknot)...the last 2 rips were the same file, with the same settings and the same avs , and they both came out with exactly the same -big- size :)i am trying again as we speak, and made sure the desired size in the second pass tab is the one i asked for in gknot...we'll see :) otherwise, so far it had worked great and has been really reliable.

Thank you again len0x for that great tool, for all of us lazy people, we can't say it too much indeed :D

are you really using the latest version of gk (0.28.8), because on the homepage of gk the latest version is 0.28.7...

make sure XviD was upgraded properly (i.e. pre 1.0 uninstalled)

yes i have 0.28.8 and i installed RC4 properly(so properly that it's a first install after a reformat ;))...as i said, so far no issues at all, no big deal anyway, though i am not the only one, someone reported this in the Hola thread too, if i remember correctly

Hi-

Do you have Packed Bitstream enabled? If so, disable it and try again. That caused oversize in the earlier versions, but I'm not positive about the XviD 1.0 RC series.

test 3 came out perfect ..i made sure everything was set properly this time, but since i was in a rush for test 1 and 2 i'm not sure what went wrong...as i said again it was a one-off (two-off). i do use packed bitstream but it doesnt seem to be responsible here..ah well if i hadn't been half asleep i might have cornered what happened. i read the logs, and they don't show any error either..it just came out oversized, for whatever reason :) i'll double check tomorrow, it's nearly 8 am and i haven't slept :D
